Leaders and supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) have alleged that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has removed anti-military content from his X (formerly Twitter) account, according to claims by the PML-N digital media team, lawyer Mian Daood Advocate, and Sahara Naword among others.
Since his removal from office in 2022 via a no-confidence motion, Imran Khan has frequently directed criticism towards his political adversaries and both current and former military officials. Presently, he faces imprisonment on multiple charges, including those stemming from events on May 9 and various references from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Imran Khan and his followers contend that the establishment orchestrates these legal challenges to secure convictions in several trials. This belief has fueled anti-military sentiments among Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, especially after the party’s decisive win in the general elections on February 8.
A video posted by the PTI on May 26, drawing parallels with events from 1971, gained rapid traction on social media and received both acclaim and criticism. While PTI affiliates lauded Khan’s bold approach, adversaries from different political factions sharply rebuked it. Recent discussions about potential agreements involving Imran Khan have emerged amid these tensions. Subsequently, PML-N supporters suggested that Khan had erased specific anti-military tweets. However, an inquiry into these allegations indicated they were unfounded.
The controversial post concerning 1971 is still visible on Imran Khan’s X account, available in both English and Urdu. Khawaja Asif recently referenced this post, invoking the Bangladeshi populace’s historical perspective on traitors and posing a rhetorical question about the location of Mujib ur Rahman’s statues. He emphasized that history has rendered its verdict, cautioning Imran Khan about the relentless nature of retribution.
