During an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan addressed the arrest of Lt. General (retd) Faiz Hameed. He underscored his demand for a judicial commission, presenting it as a testament to his fearlessness amidst current political challenges.
Khan discussed a new reference against him, claiming that remarks from the Chief Justice on November 23 influenced it. He expressed concerns about the Chief Justice commenting on a pending reference, suggesting these remarks aimed to influence the judge handling his case. Khan appealed to the establishment, accusing it of steering the country towards jeopardy.
He criticized the establishment for allegedly placing corrupt individuals in power, which he believes undermines the nation and its institutions.
Khan also addressed the economic impact of the internet shutdown, estimating a loss of $500 million to the country due to the ban on social media and the internet. He contended that these measures aim to secure an extension for the Chief Justice and a two-thirds majority in government. He accused the Chief Justice of being actively against him, as evidenced by further adverse legal decisions, and suggested that the true implications of the allegations against him would become clear in the upcoming Economic Survey of Pakistan.
Regarding communications, Khan mentioned that he does not need a phone to contact his associate, Zulfi Bukhari, as lawyers are available to relay messages. He noted that jammers installed in the jail render mobile phones useless, dismissing the situation as part of a broader witch hunt.
Responding to a question about potential meetings, Khan stated his willingness to meet with Sher Afzal Marwat, indicating ongoing political engagements despite his incarceration.
