Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan will appear in court today as police seek his physical remand in a vandalism case. The proceedings will occur at an anti-terrorism court within Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where Khan has been detained.
Khan, the only prime minister in Pakistan’s history to be ousted by a no-confidence vote, faces multiple charges. He has been in prison for over a year, with various cases pending against him and his party affiliates.
Recently, Khan was detained again for his involvement in a vandalism incident reported in September, just hours after receiving bail in a separate case. According to a police spokesperson, a team led by the SSP of Investigation “arrested” Khan at Adiala Jail late Wednesday.
An FIR filed at the New Town police station, Rawalpindi, accuses Khan of inciting arson and property damage during a PTI protest on September 27. The case, implicating him under the Anti-Terrorism Act and sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, also names Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and several PTI leaders as co-accused.
Additionally, today’s session will include a hearing on the new Toshakhana case, where Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, recently granted bail, face possible indictment. The charges relate to a jewellery set gifted by the Saudi royal family during Khan’s tenure as prime minister, which the couple allegedly retained unlawfully, leading to a significant financial loss to the national treasury.
