Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan hailed the Supreme Court (SC) decision in the election suo motu case and announced to suspension of the “Jail Bharo Tehreek.”
Following the SC’s verdict, in a Twitter message, Imran Khan stated that the party would continue with election campaigns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab.
“We welcome the SC judgment. It was the responsibility of SC to uphold the Constitution & they have valiantly done that through their judgment today. It is an assertion of the Rule of Law in Pak. We are suspending our Jail Bharo movement & moving forward with elec campaigns in KP & Punjab.”
After two days of deliberation, the supreme court issued its decision this morning in a case involving the delay in announcing the date of provincial elections in Punjab and K-P.
The Supreme Court has ordered elections for both assemblies within the next ninety days, with the chief justice stating that “democracy cannot live without assemblies.”
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry welcomed the ruling as a “win for Pakistan’s constitution” outside the court, which AML leader Sheikh Rashid echoed as a “success for Imran Khan.”
While welcoming the decision, Imran stated that “it was the obligation of the Supreme Court to preserve the constitution, and they have heroically done so with their decision today.”
