Incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan’s sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, met with U.S. President Donald Trump’s key aide, Richard Grenell, on July 22, 2025, to advocate for their father’s release.
This marks their first public push since highlighting his imprisonment in May 2025. Imran Khan has been detained since August 2023 at Adiala Jail in a £190 million corruption case, with pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the May 9, 2023, protests.
Grenell, the U.S. special presidential envoy known for supporting Khan’s release, posted on X: “There are millions of people around the world who are sick of political prosecutions. You are not alone.” The brothers also met Pakistani-American physician Dr Asif Mahmood, USCIRF vice chairman, who praised their bravery: “Immense pride for [Kasim] and Sulaiman Khan for their bravery in fighting for their father’s freedom.”
Welcome to California, my friends.
I loved hanging out with you today.
Sulaiman and @Kasim_Khan_1999, you must stay strong.
There are millions of people around the world who are sick of political prosecutions.

Imran’s sister Aleema Khan stated earlier this month that the brothers plan a U.S. campaign before returning to Pakistan. However, government officials warn of visa restrictions, as the brothers hold British nationality. Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik noted: “Foreigners are not allowed to assemble in Pakistan. If they violate visa conditions, the visa can be cancelled.” PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui added that they may enter, but must follow the laws.
Khan faces charges in multiple cases, including corruption and inciting unrest. His arrest sparked nationwide protests, leading to further legal actions against PTI members.
Grenell’s meeting indicates international support for the cause. Mahmood has urged unity in efforts to free Khan. The Khan brothers’ campaign seeks to draw attention to the alleged injustices faced by their family. Sulaiman and Kasim Khan’s meeting with Grenell marks the beginning of a high-profile initiative aimed at securing their father’s release. As British nationals, they are facing legal challenges in Pakistan.
