Kasim Khan, the son of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has expressed grave concerns about his father’s condition. He fears that authorities are concealing “something irreversible” from the family.
The statement comes amid sustained protests by the PTI party and Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala Jail. They have demonstrated, despite facing a barrier to meeting the imprisoned leader for over three weeks.
Kasim Khan detailed the family’s distress in written remarks to Reuters. He stated that the family has received no direct or verifiable contact with the former prime minister. This lack of communication persists despite a judicial order requiring weekly family meetings. “Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured or even alive is a form of psychological torture,” Kasim said.
My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency. His sisters have been denied every visit, even with clear court orders allowing access. There have been no phone calls, no… pic.twitter.com/VZm26zM4OF

He emphasised the complete information vacuum. “Today we have no verifiable information at all about his condition,” he added. “Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us.”
The family has also repeatedly sought access for Imran Khan’s personal physician. Kasim noted that the doctor has not been allowed to conduct a medical examination for more than a year. A jail official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, offered a different perspective. The official stated that Imran Khan is in good health and expressed no awareness of any plan to transfer him to a higher-security facility.

The Interior Ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for comment on the family’s allegations. Kasim Khan directly challenged the notion of intentional isolation. “This isolation is intentional,” he stated. “They are scared of him. He is Pakistan’s most popular leader, and they know they cannot defeat him democratically.”
Imran Khan, 72, has remained in jail since August 2023 following multiple convictions. His legal team and party maintain that these cases are politically motivated, stemming from his ouster via a 2022 no-confidence vote.
Kasim and his older brother, Suleiman Isa Khan, live in London with their mother, Jemima Goldsmith. They have largely remained distant from active Pakistani politics but have spoken about their father’s imprisonment.
The last time the brothers saw their father was in November 2022, following an assassination attempt. “That image has stayed with me ever since,” Kasim recalled. The family is now pursuing all available avenues, including appeals to international human rights organisations. Kasim framed the issue as a “human rights emergency” requiring immediate, verifiable access.
