Police briefly detained the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan during a protest late Tuesday. The incident occurred near Central Jail Rawalpindi on Adiala Road after Aleema Khan, Uzma Khanum, and Noreen Khan Niazi refused to end their sit-in demonstration.
The sisters, alongside dozens of PTI workers, staged the protest after jail authorities denied them permission to meet the incarcerated former prime minister and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The police initiated a crackdown at the Gorakhpur picket when negotiations to clear the road failed.
Authorities asked the protesters to disperse, but the talks proved unsuccessful, with Aleema Khan refusing to call off the sit-in. Following the failed negotiations, police used a water spray and subsequently detained approximately eight to ten PTI activists, which included Khan’s sisters. The police later released the sisters near the Chakri Interchange.Speaking to journalists after her release, Aleema Khan made serious allegations against the police. She claimed that women police personnel dragged her sister, Noreen, on the road during the detention process.

Aleema Khan has frequently visited her brother at Adiala Jail and has served as a key conduit for conveying his messages to PTI workers and the media through statements made outside the facility.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of restricted access to the PTI founder. Last month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was also denied permission to meet with Imran Khan. CM Afridi had arrived at the jail alongside PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja but had to return without a meeting.
Speaking to the press on that occasion, Chief Minister Afridi emphasized that he should be allowed to meet the PTI founder to receive “policy guidelines,” questioning the reasons behind obstructing such a meeting.
