Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan voiced concerns over the national cricket team’s disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, relayed his sentiments to the media following a recent discussion. Imran Khan pinpointed the root of the problem as the non-merit-based appointments within the cricket administration, specifically targeting Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“Cricket will suffer if key positions are filled based on recommendations rather than merit,” Imran Khan asserted, expressing profound disappointment after watching the match on PTV. He was notably upset with the leadership under Naqvi, criticizing his lack of cricketing experience and questioning his qualifications for managing the sport’s national interests.

Aleema Khan highlighted her brother’s frustration, noting his remarks about Naqvi’s extensive control over multiple key roles, “No one in Pakistan holds as many positions as Mohsin Naqvi does,” Imran Khan was quoted. He further noted that in light of the poor performance, a respectable leader would have resigned, a step Naqvi had yet to take.
