The Imran Khan PIMS eye treatment continued on Tuesday as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was transferred from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for a scheduled follow-up visit.
The former prime minister was taken to the hospital under heightened security for ongoing care of his right eye. This was his second visit for the condition, following an earlier appointment in January.
The Imran Khan Pims eye treatment involves a series of anti-VEGF intravitreal injections prescribed by doctors. Hospital officials confirmed that he received his second dose during this visit. A third injection is reportedly expected on March 23.
Before the procedure, a board of specialists conducted a detailed eye examination. A consultant cardiologist also performed echocardiography and an electrocardiogram. According to a statement from the hospital’s executive director, both cardiac tests showed normal heart function.
The injection was administered in an operating theatre under established medical protocols. The procedure was carried out as day-care surgery, allowing Khan to be discharged later the same day. Hospital authorities stated that his vital signs remained stable throughout treatment and recovery.
He was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail with follow-up instructions and medical documentation.

PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed that the party founder underwent the procedure at Pims. He said the party was informed after the examination and reiterated the PTI’s demand that future medical care be conducted at Shifa International Hospital. He also called for the presence of Khan’s personal physicians during future examinations, citing transparency concerns.

According to a report submitted to the Supreme Court by Barrister Salman Safdar, Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition associated with underlying cardiovascular risk factors. The report states that he has complained of significant vision loss in his right eye.
Khan, 73, has been incarcerated since August 2023 following convictions that he and his party describe as politically motivated. Some convictions have been suspended or overturned, with appeals ongoing. He denies wrongdoing.
