Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has mandated the expulsion of party members who supported the 26th Amendment.
According to sources within the party. Khan has directed PTI’s senior leadership to act against members who were absent during the voting session, indicating a firm stance on party discipline.
The party has already served show-cause notices to members who were absent from the amendment session. Notably absent were Zarqa Suharwardy, Senator Faisal Saleem, and Zain Qureshi, among others. Additional members such as Aslam Ghuman, Riaz Fatyana, Maqsood Ali Khan, and Aurangzeb Kachhi also received notices for their non-participation.
In a significant move on February 12, 2025, Khan further instructed the expulsion of PTI lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat for multiple violations of party discipline. This directive was issued during a meeting with a party leader at Adiala Jail, where Khan is currently held. Following this meeting, PTI leadership was asked to issue an official notification confirming Marwat’s removal from the party.
This decision came after Khan had already prohibited Marwat from representing him in court cases and instructed the jail administration to deny him entry for visits. Marwat, known for his fiery approach, had previously been reprimanded by PTI officials for deviating from the party line. He received a second show-cause notice for making public statements against party policy and the secretary-general, Salman Akram Raja.
Back in May 2024, Marwat was first issued a show-cause notice for making what were described as irresponsible statements. He was warned that failing to explain satisfactorily could lead to further disciplinary action.
