In the Toshakhana case, an Islamabad court indicted PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday.
Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal announced that PTI Chairman would be indicted on February 7. After the PTI chairman missed today’s session, the judge imposed the directives.
The judge asked Khan’s attorney Ali Bukhari about his client’s power of attorney. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) lawyer argued before the court that power of attorney could not be submitted until Imran Khan appeared in person and requested arrest warrants for the former prime minister.
Bukhari informed the judge that they provided his client’s medical certificate in the prior session. He further stated that the PTI chief’s senior counsel, Barrister Ali Gohar, would arrive in five minutes.
The judge ordered Bukhari to file a power of attorney today.
The ECP’s counsel again told the court that Khan’s lawyer could not submit a power of attorney without surety bonds for the PTI chief’s court appearance.
The ECP attorney then requested that the PTI chief be arrested for failing to appear in court.
The court denied the commission’s motion but ordered the PTI leader to post Rs20,000 surety bonds to attend the next hearing.
