Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is in good health, according to his sister Uzma Khan. She confirmed this after meeting the former prime minister at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday, ending weeks of public speculation.
Uzma Khan spoke to journalists outside the jail following the authorised meeting. “I will provide in-depth updates after consultations with my sisters [Aleema Khan and Noreen Khan],” she stated.
This meeting follows intense pressure from the PTI and Khan’s family, whom authorities had repeatedly prevented from seeing him despite court orders. The party had threatened protests outside the Islamabad High Court and a march toward the jail to demand access.
Government officials previously cited jail security rules as the reason for blocking visits. They alleged that past meetings involved political discussions, which they claimed posed a security risk for the ex-premier and other inmates.

Tensions escalated recently when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied a meeting for the eighth time, even after a 16-hour sit-in.
Heightened Security and Family Accusations
Ahead of the scheduled protests, the administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi imposed Section 144. This law prohibits public gatherings and protests in the Twin Cities. Security around Adiala Jail was placed on high alert. Authorities established five additional checkpoints and deployed over 700 security personnel, including anti-riot units and women officers, to maintain order.

Before the meeting, Khan’s other sister, Aleema Khan, spoke to the media at Factory Naka. She criticised the heavy security deployment, accusing the government of acting out of fear over a simple family visit.
“They have deployed half of Punjab’s police here today,” Aleema said. “We cannot understand what they are so afraid of.”
She also alleged that Imran Khan had endured a month of solitary confinement and accused authorities of lying to prevent the family from exercising its legal rights. Imran Khan’s sons have previously voiced grave concerns, fearing authorities might conceal “something irreversible” about his condition after a prolonged information blackout.

Imran Khan has remained in jail since August 2023 following his removal from office via a no-confidence vote in April 2022. The district administrations have reiterated that Section 144 remains in force, warning of immediate action against any unlawful gatherings.
