Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, has made a strong call to his supporters. On Monday, from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, he urged them to join him in a protest against what he terms the “mother of all selection” in Pakistan.
Allegations of ‘Selection’ in Pakistani Politics
Imran Khan, incarcerated due to the cypher case, shared his views with the media. He discussed that the label “selected” is often associated with Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Previously, opposition parties, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, had labelled Imran as “selected.” However, Imran argues that recent events, particularly Nawaz’s return, indicate a more severe form of selection in the country. He stated, “The way Nawaz Sharif was brought back is proof of the mother of all selection.”
Imran Khan criticized the current political scenario, focusing on Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal in corruption cases. He claimed that history had not seen such a level of “selection” before. Imran accused the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of supporting Nawaz. He expressed his frustration, noting the respect shown to Nawaz by officials like the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Lahore. Imran’s call to action was clear. On Sunday, he urged his party members to rally against what he views as an unjust system.
Imran Khan emphasized the importance of law and justice. He stated, “The meaning of democracy is freedom, not acceptance of slavery.” He believes that the current rulers, whom he refers to as “thieves,” would never allow the supremacy of law and justice in Pakistan. His words reflect a deep concern for the country’s political and legal systems.
