In sharp contrast to the incumbent government s claim of ending electricity loadshedding by 2017, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has clarified that it is impossible to completely end power cuts before 2020.
It was revealed in the State of Industry Report 2014 released by Nepra on Monday.
According to the report, the country will face a shortfall of 1200 megawatts by 2020 and the K-Electric will face a power shortage of 1132 megawatts in 2016.
The report further states that average duration of loadshedding remained 2 to 18 hours per day in 2014.
Nepra claims that the power distribution companies failed to curb power theft and improve bill recoveries despite extensive reforms.
The report further discloses that Nepra has averted burdening consumers with Rs136 billion to pay off loans.
