Pervez Khattak, former Defense Minister and leader in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been scrutinised for reportedly altering his statements during a court session related to a £190 million case that undermined the case.
Khattak recorded his statement during a hearing at Adiala Jail concerning the £190 million reference. However, journalists noted that his court testimony significantly deviated from the statement previously given to the investigating officer, potentially jeopardizing the case’s integrity.
Journalist Saqib Bashir pointed out, “Pervez Khattak played a strategic game with NAB, altering a critical part of his June 2023 statement in court on July 10. He initially claimed, ‘On Imran Khan’s insistence, the cabinet approved without consultation,’ a statement he omitted in court.”
Journalist Zubair Ali Khan remarked that Pervez Khattak’s testimony had initially told NAB that the cabinet had hastily approved a summary without proper consultation, a point he did not reiterate in court.
Journalist Ehtisham Kiyani commented, “Pervez Khattak changed his statement. Initially, he told the investigating officer, ‘Imran Khan, as the Prime Minister, insisted, and the federal cabinet approved in a sealed envelope.’ This part was conspicuously absent in his court statement.”
Anchorperson Samina Pasha humorously suggested that PTI should now highlight that Pervez Khattak has finally demonstrated loyalty.
