IMAX, a Canadian production theatre company, has partnered with Dubai-based Camb.AI to provide its original content in localized languages globally.
The company revealed on Monday that it plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to translate its content into 140 languages, allowing viewers to enjoy films in their local languages. This technology will be exclusive to IMAX-branded theatres.
According to TechCrunch, IMAX is reportedly using AI to translate original content. Through collaboration with Camb.AI, an AI firm specializing in speech models, IMAX aims to release its entire content library in localized languages worldwide.

Strategically, the company targets the increasing global popularity of content from South Korea, Indonesia, and other Southeast Asian regions, particularly in Western countries. While platforms often offer such content with subtitles, dubbed versions are scarce due to higher production costs.
To date, AI-powered dubbing has seen limited use. However, IMAX plans to introduce real-time AI voice translations in theatres worldwide, ensuring that audiences in each country can access content in their native languages. The report did not detail how IMAX would handle regions with multiple local languages.
Camb.AI has previously implemented AI dubbing and speech translation technologies at major live sports events, including the Australian Open, Eurovision Sport, and Major League Soccer. The firm uses the Boli model for speech-to-text translation and Mars for speech emulation. Both models are integral to Camb.AI’s DubStudio platform, which supports translations in 140 languages.
