IESCO Busts 5,929 Power Thieves, Fines Rs503M in a Crackdown

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) announced a major crackdown on power theft. Since 2023, IESCO has caught 5,929 thieves, fined them Rs503.4 million, and arrested 2,950 with police help. This effort aims to stop illegal electricity use and protect Pakistan’s economy.

IESCO’s Chief Executive Engineer, Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, said the campaign, launched under Federal Government and Ministry of Energy orders, checked 2.8 million meters. It covers homes, businesses, and all consumer types. Mahmood called power theft a “national crime” that hurts the country’s progress.

Mahmood stressed that IESCO has no room for power thieves. He praised the operations, metering, and surveillance teams for their hard work. He urged them to keep fighting theft without giving in to pressure. This shows IESCO’s commitment to fair energy use.

Mahmood asked people to report power theft to their Sub-Divisional Officer, helpline 118, or the Central Complaint Cell at 051-9252933. Public support is key to stopping theft and keeping the power supply reliable for everyone.

Power theft costs Pakistan millions and raises electricity bills for honest users. IESCO’s crackdown recovers funds and promotes fairness. It supports a stronger energy system, helping the economy and communities across the region.

IESCO’s 2025 crackdown, catching 5,929 power thieves and fining Rs503.4 million, is a big win for Pakistan’s energy sector. With public help, the fight continues.
