India’s hesitation to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan has stalled the tournament’s schedule release. Instead, India proposes using a hybrid model to play its matches in the UAE.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) responded with a compromise, suggesting a “fusion” approach where both countries would host ICC event matches in the UAE over the next three years. Initially resistant, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has accepted most of the PCB’s conditions, though some disagreements persist, extending the impasse.

Sources indicate that despite recent quiet, negotiations continue behind the scenes. Former PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer has been in Dubai for several days, joined by current COO Sumair Syed, to talk with ICC representatives, who recently mediated discussions as recently as yesterday.
Earlier efforts to address the financial impacts of India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan faced challenges. However, the latest talks suggest progress, with a potential resolution announcement expected this week.
The PCB aims to expedite this resolution by shifting the focus to ticket sales and other logistics for the Champions Trophy.
Champions Trophy Promo Criticism
The recently released ICC Champions Trophy promo by Star Sports India has faced severe criticism after omitting the host nation’s name.
The promo highlights clips from India’s recent T20 World Cup victory, omitting any mention of Pakistan, the host nation, and the defending champions led by Sarfaraz Ahmed. This exclusion has led to significant disappointment among fans.
Social media has criticized Star Sports for not featuring Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy victories or acknowledging Pakistan as the host. Concurrently, fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the PCB for not ensuring the inclusion of Pakistan’s highlights and hosting recognition in ICC promos, with some calling for a boycott of the event.
