The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Sunny Dhillon, a former assistant coach of a franchise team, from all forms of cricket for six years in the Abu Dhabi T10 League corruption case.
The decision follows Dhillon’s breach of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code. Dhillon was implicated in a corruption case involving the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League, where he and seven others were charged last year for their attempts to influence match outcomes. The ICC’s statement highlighted that Dhillon’s actions violated several articles of the Anti-Corruption Code.
After a comprehensive hearing that included both written and oral arguments, the Tribunal found Dhillon guilty of multiple code violations:
- Article 2.1.1: Being party to an attempt to improperly fix, contrive, or influence matches or aspects of matches.
- Article 2.4.4: Failing to disclose full details of any corrupt approaches or invitations received.
- Article 2.4.6: Refusing to cooperate with investigations into corrupt conduct.
The ban will be effective from September 13, 2023, when Dhillon was initially provisionally suspended.
