On June 22, 2025, the IAEA confirmed no off-site radiation increase following U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites and offered to mediate for peace.
On June 21, U.S. forces targeted Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear facilities, joining Israel’s ongoing campaign, according to Reuters. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reported no off-site radiation spikes, as confirmed by Iranian authorities.
Following U.S. attacks and further analysis, IAEA assessed extensive damage at Esfahan, including tunnel entrances; Fordow was also directly impacted; additional strikes at Natanz.

The Esfahan facility suffered “extensive additional damage” to its tunnel entrances, while Natanz was hit with ground-penetrating munitions. The extent of damage at Fordow remains unclear due to its fortified design, but satellite imagery indicated that Iran may have relocated 60% enriched uranium before the strikes. Iran denies any ambitions to develop nuclear weapons.
.@rafaelmgrossi addressed @UN Security Council #UNSC on Iran's situation after last night’s U.S. attacks, stressing window for diplomacy must not close or "destruction could reach unthinkable levels and the non-proliferation regime could crumble and fall". https://t.co/DejUUne6o2 pic.twitter.com/TXEWOeoZP7

Grossi emphasised the need to return to negotiations, stating, “We must work for peace.” He also offered the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to mediate in resuming the verification of Iran’s stockpile of 400 kg of highly enriched uranium. Although inspections have been halted, the agency’s monitoring is ongoing, and Grossi is prepared to deploy experts. The recent strikes, which followed Israel’s attacks on June 13 that resulted in 657 deaths, pose a risk of escalation.
IAEA Director General @rafaelmgrossi is scheduled to address the @UN Security Council #UNSC on the situation in Iran today, Sunday, at 3PM EDT / 9PM CEST.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, rejected U.S. talks, describing the strikes as a betrayal of diplomacy. The IAEA’s offer to mediate aligns with its non-proliferation mandate.
