Sony Pictures announced the release date for the sequel to the 1997 slasher flick “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directed the movie, which will be released in theatres on July 18, 2025. According to Deadline, actors from the original movies will reportedly reprise their roles.
Robinson and Sam Lansky co-wrote the screenplay for the sequel after an initial script by Leah McKendrick.
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., who starred in the original movie, are reportedly reprising their roles.
The original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” starred Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe.
“Scream” writer Kevin Williamson wrote the original movie’s script, based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel.
The original film depicted a group of friends stalked by a villain with a hook after they tried to cover up a car accident.
The movie was an instant hit, generating around $72 million in 1997, which is equivalent to $141 million today.
Hewitt and Prinze reprised their roles in the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Another movie, “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” was released in 2006 with an entirely new cast.
