Senator Chuck Grassley obtained newly released redacted FBI chat logs, which revealed that on October 14, 2020, FBI agents internally acknowledged a money laundering investigation linked to Hunter Biden’s laptop.
The FBI’s acknowledgement coincided with the FBI’s earlier public dismissal of the laptop’s authenticity during meetings with social media companies, raising questions about transparency in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
The chat logs show FBI analyst Peter Courtney confirming to agent Elvis Chan that the Hunter Biden case involved money laundering. That same day, The New York Post published a report citing laptop emails suggesting then-candidate Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s business dealings. However, FBI representatives, including Chan, withheld comment in a meeting with Twitter, reinforcing perceptions of Russian disinformation. Former Twitter executive Yoel Roth later testified that the FBI had warned platforms to expect a disinformation leak tied to Hunter Biden pre-election.

Grassley’s Push for Accountability
Senator Grassley criticised the FBI’s actions, alleging they shielded Joe Biden during his campaign. He claimed Republican-led probes into the Biden family’s finances were undermined by an FBI briefing, later leaked and labelled as Russian propaganda. Grassley continues to demand transparency, especially as the FBI, now led by Kash Patel under President Donald Trump, has not addressed the issue publicly.

The revelations fuel debates over alleged election interference by federal agencies. Dr. Laura Simmons, a political science professor at Georgetown University, notes, “The FBI’s dual messaging—acknowledging a probe internally while dismissing it externally—raises valid concerns about impartiality. However, without full context, claims of interference remain speculative.” The Department of Justice and the FBI have not commented on the chat logs, leaving unresolved questions about their 2020 actions.

Not only did the media ignore Hunter’s first laptop—most people missed that he left ANOTHER one with his psychiatrist.

While Grassley’s findings highlight inconsistencies, the redacted logs lack detail on the investigation’s scope or outcome. Allegations of election interference require further evidence to substantiate claims against the FBI.
