Hub Dam Karachi, an essential water source for Karachi, reached a height of 338 feet, just one foot shy of its maximum capacity of 339 feet. This situation arose due to heavy monsoon rainfall in Sindh and Balochistan. Authorities have issued emergency flood alerts and are urging residents near the Hub River to evacuate.

The Irrigation Department reported that the dam’s water level rose from 335 feet to 338 feet in just one day. With only one foot of storage remaining, the spillway may soon be opened to release excess water. This safety measure is managed by the Ministry of Water Resources, WAPDA, and the Lasbela administration. Located 56 kilometres from Karachi, the Hub Dam is vitally important as it supplies 100 million gallons of water daily to the city and Balochistan.

Residents near the Hub River are advised to evacuate immediately due to the risk of flooding. Owners of crush plants must relocate their equipment and workers away from the riverbanks of the Hub Dam Karachi area. Authorities caution that delaying evacuation could be hazardous. The situation is being closely monitored to prevent flooding.

Thado Dam in Karachi’s Gadap area has overflowed, causing flooding on the M-9 Motorway near Jamali Bridge and disrupting traffic between Karachi and Hyderabad. In response, the Karachi Commissioner dispatched a team to manage the situation, acting on the directives of the Chief Secretary.

Hub Dam’s near-overflow in 2025 highlights Karachi’s vulnerability to monsoon flooding. The dam’s critical state, combined with regional flood risks, underscores the need for robust disaster management and infrastructure upgrades. Evacuation alerts prioritise public safety concerning the Hub Dam Karachi’s impact.
