Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently launched the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program in Lahore to provide affordable housing to Punjab residents.
At the inaugural event, Chief Minister Sharif announced that the Punjab government would offer interest-free loans up to Rs1.5 million. Beneficiaries can repay these loans over seven years through manageable instalments. The government has designated these loans specifically for building houses on plots of up to five marlas in urban areas and ten marlas in rural areas.
Chief Minister Sharif explained that prospective applicants could apply for the loans through the Punjab Information Technology Board portal or by calling the toll-free number 080009100 for more information.
She underscored the importance of the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program in fulfilling the long-held aspirations of many citizens for affordable home ownership. Additionally, she revealed plans to launch the largest solar program in the province’s history, scheduled to begin next year.
In related news, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif announced a Rs14 per unit reduction in electricity tariffs for users who consume between 200 and 500 units monthly, effective for August and September. However, this policy applies only to Punjab, causing discontent among the PPP-led Sindh government, a federal ally of the PML-N administration.
