Prime Minister, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif found himself graced with the monarchial title ‘His Highness’ on the list of panelists that were due to address the UN general assembly’s 69th session from September 24 to 30 in New York.
The Pakistani prime minister was given this quantessentialy royal title despite the fact that Pakistan is a parliamentary democracy and Nawaz Sharif is an elected Prime Minister.
Pakistan Foreign Office hasn’t given any clarification in this regards, as Foreign office provides the list with the titles of the participants.
He is often reffered to as a ‘monarch’ sarcastically by opposition politicians in Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif has a reputation for a regal lifestyle amongst the circles critical of him.
