Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios’ third-person action game, is experiencing renewed review bombing on Steam. This is driven by player frustration with the Equality-on-Sea defence mission in its Mega-City mode.
The review bombing of Helldivers 2 has resulted in a “Mixed” recent rating, as per IGN, highlighting ongoing tensions within the game’s community.
Players report that the Equality-on-Sea mission, part of the Mega-City defence issues, stalls at 99.9783% progress, preventing completion. Some view this as an artificial block, though the game’s design ties completion to the Illuminate’s continuous invasion until the time limit expires. This misunderstanding has fueled negative reviews, overshadowing the “Heart of Democracy” update that introduced these defences and boosted player numbers.

Since its 2024 launch, Helldivers 2 has faced multiple review-bombing episodes, previously over weapon balance and a mandatory PlayStation Network requirement. Despite its acclaimed Galactic War live-service mode, the Equality-on-Sea mission issue marks another challenge in the game’s rocky community relationship.

CEO Shams Jorjani emphasised Helldivers 2’s priority while Arrowhead develops “Game 6.” The studio plans to address the concerns of the Arrowhead Game Studios community with fixes and updates, ensuring ongoing engagement with content to defend Super Earth.
The backlash against Helldivers 2 on Steam illustrates the challenges of balancing live-service game design with player expectations. As Arrowhead responds to community feedback, upcoming updates will be vital for restoring the game’s reputation.
