The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan declared on Tuesday that it would no longer recognize degrees obtained from Metropolitan University, Karachi, for students enrolled after August 5, 2022.
The decision follows the discovery of gross violations and non-compliance with HEC guidelines by the university.
Metropolitan University, Karachi, chartered by the Sindh Government and recognized by HEC, was initially permitted to offer undergraduate degree programs in specific fields, with limited seats, at its main campus in Malir Cantt, Karachi. However, the university is operating unauthorized campuses in multiple cities.
As a result, the HEC has halted admissions to Metropolitan University, effective August 5, 2022, and advised students and the general public against enrolling.
The HEC will not recognize degrees obtained by students enrolled after the cutoff date.
This announcement follows a similar decision in February 2023, when the HEC suspended admissions to Isra University. The commission consistently urges students to pursue education only at HEC-recognized institutions.
