The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has confirmed that it will resume on-campus classes in Pakistan starting April 1, restoring physical teaching across universities nationwide.
The move applies to all public and private universities, as well as degree-awarding institutions. The decision marks a return to regular academic operations after a temporary shift to online learning.
Earlier, universities were instructed to conduct virtual classes and adopt a four-day workweek as part of fuel conservation measures.
On March 11, HEC directed institutions to move all classes online in response to austerity measures announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. These steps were taken to manage fuel shortages linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
According to the latest notification, on-campus teaching will resume across all provinces and regions. The directive has been shared with education authorities in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
With the restoration of physical classes, earlier restrictions on academic activities have been lifted. This signals improved conditions and a shift away from emergency measures introduced during the fuel crunch.
Students and faculty can now return to campuses, resuming in-person learning and regular schedules. The decision is expected to restore stability in the academic calendar and improve the overall learning environment.
