Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken a decisive step against the University of Lakki Marwat, banning it from offering new admissions or granting affiliations.
The action was communicated through an official alert on the microblogging site X, addressing the serious concerns identified at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-based university.
The decision to impose this ban stemmed from an inspection conducted by the HEC on September 21, 2023, which revealed significant irregularities and a blatant disregard for the Commission’s guidelines, criteria, and policies.
These violations have reportedly hurt the quality of education the University of Lakki Marwat provides. As a result, the HEC has fully prohibited the institution from initiating new admissions or establishing fresh affiliations, urging stakeholders to refrain from engaging with the university in these capacities.
Alongside the specific restrictions placed on the University of Lakki Marwat, the HEC has also declared a nationwide ban on all public sector universities from granting new affiliations.
The broader measure indicates a concerted effort by the Commission to uphold educational standards and compliance across the country’s higher education institutions. The HEC’s notice serves as a caution to all stakeholders in the higher education sector about the importance of adhering to established guidelines and maintaining educational quality.
