The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has implemented a ban on the celebration of Holi festivals in all universities across Pakistan. This decision comes in response to a recent Holi celebration held at Quaid-i-Azam University, which gained attention due to viral videos.
In an official notification, the HEC expressed concern over the activities during the festival, stating that they deviated from Pakistan’s sociocultural values and posed a threat to its ‘Islamic identity.’
The HEC emphasized the importance of inclusive and tolerant societies but urged students to exercise restraint and be cautious of manipulative interests. The commission advised students to refrain from organizing such events.
