Cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, experienced rainfall ranging from light showers to heavy downpours on Monday, significantly improving weather conditions.
In the early hours, the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were hit by substantial rainfall. The Water and Sanitation Agency (LDA) Managing Director, Muhammad Saleem, mobilized heavy machinery and revoked staff leave to address the situation. Saleem highlighted ongoing drainage efforts in flood-prone areas and continuous monitoring of the Lai Nullah. He reported a rainfall accumulation of 27 millimetres in the region.
Lahore residents enjoyed the rain as it sprinkled across various neighbourhoods, including Maraghzar Colony, Iqbal Town, Sabzazar, Multan Road, Canal Road, and surrounding areas, marking the start of a pleasant day.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) noted the influence of a westerly wave over the western and upper parts of the country, predicting its intensification over the following 12 hours. The forecast anticipates further rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in elevated areas of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Islamabad, upper Punjab, and northern Balochistan.
The PMD also forecasted isolated hailstorms within the same timeframe. Tuesday’s predictions mirror these expectations, focusing on Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, and northern Balochistan.
