In Karachi, a severe heatwave has led to a devastating toll, with 810 deaths recorded over the past eight days.
Recent reports indicate that on June 24, a total of 127 bodies were delivered to the morgue. The Edhi Foundation reported that the peak of the crisis was on June 25, when they received 141 bodies, making it the day with the highest number of casualties, whereas 134 bodies preceded this on June 24 and 128 on June 23.
Faisal Edhi, the head of the Edhi Foundation, disclosed that over the last four days, approximately 427 bodies were brought to their facilities, representing a fourfold increase from the usual intake. He noted that the surge in cases was predominantly because of the heat waves.
Contrary to these figures, Karachi Commissioner Saleem Rajput has denied reports of a high number of heatwave-related deaths, affirming that only 10 fatalities occurred on Monday and Tuesday due to the heatwave.
