Heather Thomas, best known for her role in the 1980s hit series The Fall Guy, recently shared valuable advice for rising star Sydney Sweeney. During a candid Still Here Hollywood podcast appearance, she opened up about her decision to leave Hollywood.
When asked if she would offer guidance to Sweeney, experiencing a level of fame similar to Thomas’s peak, Thomas praised the young actress, saying, “I think she’s doing fantastic.” She highlighted how opportunities for women in Hollywood have evolved since her time, with more compelling roles now available for women of all ages.
However, Thomas did offer one crucial piece of advice: “Watch your business people.” Married to an entertainment lawyer, Thomas has seen firsthand how many celebrities have been exploited by managers and financial advisors. She shared that her husband has helped numerous stars recover from financial disasters, often saving them from bankruptcy. “Be careful with your business people,” she emphasized, stressing the importance of having trustworthy individuals handle finances in the competitive entertainment industry.
The Dark Side of Fame
Thomas also opened up about the dark side of fame that led her to leave Hollywood in the 1990s. During her time on The Fall Guy, she became a target of multiple stalkers, with incidents escalating to terrifying levels. She described one harrowing experience where a man cut through her bedroom screen to break into her home. Thomas defended herself by shooting the intruder with a firearm filled with rock salt.
The threats didn’t stop there. Thomas received threatening mail, including boxes of bullets and funeral wreaths. Another incident involved a man jumping her gate with a large knife. For her safety, she had to employ a bodyguard at home, especially when returning at night. “I just needed to be home anyway,” she explained, noting the immense stress of dealing with constant threats.

Originally interested in writing and directing, Thomas chose acting for its financial rewards while studying at UCLA. She admitted that acting became the path of “least resistance” for a paycheck despite the industry’s harsh realities.

Thomas’s decision to leave Hollywood was influenced by the constant pressure and the dangers she faced from stalkers. Her experiences serve as a reminder of the complexities of fame and the challenges many stars face behind the scenes.
