Tensions escalated during a high-level meeting in Peshawar with Army Chief General Asim Munir present, where sources revealed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur engaged in a heated argument.
The conflict ignited when the governor discussed the allocation of Rs500 billion from the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.
The governor accused the chief minister of disseminating misleading information. In a sharp response, the chief minister exited the meeting, accusing the governor of lying, but he returned shortly after.
Amid the tension, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asfandyar Wali commented, “Let it go; this one is just a child.”
The governor also expressed concerns about managing funds designated for counter-terrorism in the province. He questioned the effectiveness of these substantial funds to strengthen the police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
Furthermore, the governor reiterated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had received Rs500 billion under the NFC specifically for counter-terrorism efforts.
When questioned about the nature of his interaction with the chief minister, Governor Kundi refuted the suggestion that it was amicable, stating, “You have received incorrect information.”
This confrontation occurred during COAS Munir’s visit to Peshawar, where he met with senior provincial political figures and emphasized the importance of a stable state for the continuation of politics, noting, “If there is a state, there is politics. God forbid, without a state, there is nothing.”
