Journalist Hassan Ayub recently faced criticism after misrepresenting an old interview of Imaan Mazari to suggest she was abducted during Imran Khan’s tenure.
In reality, Mazari was detained in August 2023 under the PDM government led by Shahbaz Sharif. Her case was subsequently addressed in the Islamabad High Court, which resulted in her release.
Imaan Mazari clarified the situation: “I understand the pain this interview might cause, but lying does not change the truth.” She emphasized that the arrest took place in August 2023, and the interview in question was her first public discussion of the ordeal. In it, she also touched on broader issues, such as enforced disappearances and the situation in Balochistan.
Hassan Ayub later acknowledged his error, retracting his earlier tweet and apologising. He admitted that his claim regarding Mazari’s arrest during Imran Khan’s government was mistaken.
