International media reported that South African batsman Hashim Amla has announced his retirement from international cricket.
Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for South Africa over 20 years; he informed Surrey County Cricket Club that he will not defend the County Championship championship the club won in 2022, Amla’s final season.
The Surrey County Cricket Club tweeted, “Hashim Amla announces retirement from all forms of cricket 🏏 The legendary South African batter has declared his playing career over. From everyone at Surrey, thank you for everything, Hash.”
The club sent a parting message from the cricket guru a few hours later. “I have great memories of the Oval ground, and finally, leaving it as a player fills me with immense gratitude for what has been.” Memories to last a lifetime. Thank you, Hash, 🤎
The right-handed batter is a contemporary great. He scored 34,104 runs in all formats over two decades.
Amla set multiple national records. He hit 311 against England at the Oval in 2012, becoming the first Proteas batsman to score a triple century.
