Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently engaged in a heated exchange on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) with Pakistani sports journalist Fareed Khan. Known for his critical views on hosting cricket events in Pakistan, Harbhajan’s latest comments have stirred controversy again.
The spat began when Khan posted an image of Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi hitting four sixes off Singh’s bowling, sarcastically commenting on Singh’s security concerns in Pakistan. Harbhajan reacted sharply by sharing a news report about the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, adopting an aggressive tone in his reply.
Harbhajan’s response was tinged with sarcasm as he wrote, “Look at the picture posted below and get (F) out of here. You must have understood the meaning of (F), or should I also explain it to you? Please don’t think (F) means that! You know what I am trying to say!” His ambiguous language and insinuating derogatory terms sparked significant backlash on social media.
The incident reflects ongoing tension between Harbhajan Singh and aspects of the Pakistani cricketing community.
Despite previously endorsing the Indian cricket board’s request for government clearance for the team’s potential participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, Singh remains a vocal critic, citing persistent security issues in Pakistan. He has expressed strong reservations about the safety of the Indian team, underscoring the volatile conditions and frequent incidents in the region.
