The recent attack highlights a growing wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, regions that border Afghanistan’s porous frontier. A June 2025 report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) recorded 78 terrorist incidents, which resulted in 100 fatalities, including 53 security personnel and 39 civilians, as well as 189 injuries. In response, security forces have ramped up operations, including the killing of 47 Indian-backed militants in the Zhob district of Balochistan earlier this month.
The assault, part of a surge in violence in Pakistan’s border regions, prompted a swift response from security forces, with ongoing operations to curb militancy.
The rise in attacks associated with groups like the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has put immense pressure on Pakistan’s security framework, resulting in 175 fatalities in June alone, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). The government’s Azm-e-Istehkam operation is designed to counter cross-border militant activities.
