Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in what the group described as a “treacherous Zionist raid” on his residence in Tehran.
The Palestinian organization confirmed this incident, which occurred yesterday morning. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
The statement from Hamas detailed that both Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards died as a result of the attack on his headquarters. The group has initiated an investigation to uncover more details about the circumstances of the assault.
The violent act follows Israel’s pledge to target Haniyeh and dismantle Hamas in response to an October 7 attack that claimed the lives of 1,195 individuals, predominantly civilians.
In retaliation, Israel’s military actions in Gaza have resulted in approximately 39,400 casualties, as reported by the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled region.
The situation remains highly tense, with significant international attention focused on the unfolding events and their broader geopolitical implications.
