Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the new amir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), was sworn in on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Mansoora.
Party leaders and workers nationwide, including former amir Sirajul Haq and senior leader Liaqat Baloch, attended the ceremony.
In his speech, Naeem articulated his vision for JI to propel the nation forward, adhering firmly to its foundational principles and policies. He announced plans for a protest on February 8 in response to alleged election rigging targeting the current government.
Naeem stressed JI’s commitment to Pakistan’s integrity, comparing its protection to that of a mosque. He denounced corrupt political practices and feudalism, emphasizing the party’s stance against such issues.
He also addressed regional disparities, promising to tackle problems in Balochistan and injustices in Punjab, urging unity to combat oppression.
Earlier in April, Hafiz Naeem was elected as JI’s sixth Amir for a term spanning from April 2024 to April 2029. His election followed a majority decision by JI members. The party conducts its leadership election every five years, overseen by the Markazi Shura, which this year nominated three candidates, including Naeem, Sirajul Haq, and Liaqat Baloch.
