Gullu Butt has been sentenced to 11 years and three months in jail and fined Rs.111,000 for vandalising public properties in Lahore.
A local anti-terrorist court announced its decision after hearing a case pertaining to the June 2014 violence which left at least 14 people dead following a clash between supporters of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and police.
Butt was taken into police custody following the court verdict.
Butt shot to prominence when he was captured live by TV channels smashing public property during a clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek activists and police in Model Town on June 17, 2014 that claimed over 20 lives, most of them the PAT members.
He led the police team in vandalising the property around Model Town.
Butt had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
While talking to media Gullu Butt’s lawyer said “We accept the judicial verdict but legal right is still in our hand and we will challenge the decision in superior court… Why the Gullu Butt alone? All other culprits should also be punished,”
