A new alternative to Wikipedia has officially arrived. Grokipedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia from Elon Musk’s xAI, is now live for users.
The platform launched in the early hours of Tuesday. The website experienced a brief crash due to high demand but is now back online. Grokipedia functions differently from standard AI chatbots like ChatGPT. Users do not have a conversational interaction with it.
Instead, you search directly for a specific subject to get an information summary. The platform currently draws from a base of 885,000 articles.
https://t.co/op5s4ZiSwh version 0.1 is now live.
Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.

It uses a hybrid model to gather information. It mixes primary sources with community-sourced data using xAI’s algorithm. The launch follows Elon Musk’s public criticisms of Wikipedia. He has alleged that the platform harbours politically motivated information.
Grokipedia aims to be a more neutral and fact-based alternative. The goal is to provide objective overviews without political bias.
However, some early users have already noted quirks in its content. This suggests the platform is still evolving in its mission.
