Finding a reliable petrol pump during travel has become a common challenge across Pakistan. The federal government has now addressed this issue with the launch of a new mobile application called Raahguzar.
The Petroleum Division introduced the app to help travellers and transporters locate registered and authorised petrol pumps nationwide. Officials said the move supports broader reforms in the petroleum sector.
According to the Petroleum Division, the app provides verified information on legally approved fuel stations. Users can now identify authentic petrol pumps and avoid illegal or unregulated outlets.
The government has also rolled out a modern track-and-trace system to curb fuel smuggling. Authorities aim to monitor the entire fuel supply chain, from depots to retail outlets.
To improve oversight of oil tankers, officials developed a joint tracking system with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and the Punjab Information Technology Board. The system digitally links fuel tankers, terminals, and petrol pumps.
Authorities will also install automatic tank gauges and digital fuel nozzles at petrol stations. These tools will help ensure accurate measurements and improve fuel-quality monitoring.
In parallel with this reform, the Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions plans to launch a new online portal. The platform will improve transparency in bidding for oil and gas exploration blocks.
The Petroleum Division also confirmed that the Explosives Track-and-Trace System is now operational. Two phases of the project are complete, enabling real-time monitoring of explosives nationwide.
To strengthen enforcement, the government has amended the Petroleum Act, 1934. The changes introduce heavy fines and confiscation for illegal sale or transport of petroleum products.
Officials said these measures will improve transparency, protect consumers, and strengthen control over illegal fuel trade nationwide.
