The federal government has declared Tuesday, September 17, 2024, a nationwide public holiday to celebrate the birth of the Last Prophet, Muhammad Mustafa (Peace Be Upon Him), observed on 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming that all private and public educational institutions and offices will close for the day.
The birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) marks a day of religious devotion and respect, celebrated widely across Pakistan and many other countries. People traditionally decorate buildings, streets, highways, mosques, and homes with lights on this occasion.
The life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad continue to guide humanity. On this day, communities hold special conferences, events, and Milad gatherings to honour his contributions and reflect on his enduring legacy. The commemoration begins with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals. After the Fajr prayer, mosques throughout the country hold special prayers for the unity of the Muslim Ummah and the nation’s prosperity and progress.
Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, confirmed the moon sighting for Rabi’ al-Awwal. The meeting included representatives from the Ruet-e-Hilal Zonal Committee Islamabad, SUPARCO, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also convened in designated locations. During a subsequent press conference, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad declared that 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal would fall on September 17, confirming the public holiday date.
