The government has sealed the residence known as ‘Lal Haveli’ of Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML).
Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said on Monday that the government has “completely sealed” his home in Lal Haveli.
Rashid said he would approach the high court about this, and the Evacuee Trust Property Board hasn’t told him anything about it (ETPB).
The former federal minister said, “I wasn’t at the Haveli because I was in Islamabad.”
“They wanted to take me into custody at night. So now they have turned to violence, “he added.
“Hang us in public and throw us out if it turns out we don’t own this land,” the former minister said, adding that this is his land.
ETPB Deputy Commissioner Asif Khan went to the house with many police officers and locked up two units. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team was also present.
The ETPB asked for help from the deputy commissioner, the city police officer, and the head of the FIA.
The deputy commissioner said Rashid and his brother Sheikh Siddique broke the law by living on seven of the haveli’s land units.
DC Khan said they sent several notices to the head of AML and his brother.
“Sheikh Rashid and his brother didn’t show any real proof,” he said, adding that the court had also denied Rashid’s request for an injunction.
The SP, the head of the FIA, and the assistant commissioner were also involved in the operation.
The ETPB shut down seven units, including two Lal Haveli units and five units next to them.
After Rashid fought a notice telling him to leave his home, a district and sessions court in Rawalpindi issued a stay order on October 18 last year, telling the ETPB to stop temporarily removing the building.
On October 16, the board told the head of AML and his brother to move out of the house within seven days. But the former minister went to court to fight the notice.
