Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi banned purchasing petrol motorcycles in Islamabad on Friday.
The decision emerged during a Capital Development Authority (CDA) meeting focused on ongoing development projects. During the session, Minister Naqvi instructed the CDA to buy only electric bikes in the future to minimize environmental pollution. Additionally, the city will introduce eco-friendly electric buses for public transport.
The meeting also reviewed the refurbishment of the Federal Secretariat, enhancements to the Diplomatic Enclave, and the launch of smart parking solutions. Naqvi highlighted his vision to transform Islamabad into a world-class city, advocating for measures like adopting electric bikes and buses.
Furthermore, international standard emergency services will shift from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to the CDA. Naqvi announced upcoming construction on the Serena Chowk underpass and F-9 Park Chowk flyover projects.
Progress on the Islamabad Model Jail project, which has stalled for 17 years, is swift. The first phase is set to be completed on time. He confirmed the completion of land allotment for the Health Tower in sector H-16 of the capital.
The meeting concluded with Naqvi applauding the CDA for a record tax collection and emphasising the need to enhance institutional assets beyond selling plots and land.
