To support the Punjab government’s large-scale operation against criminals, the federal government officially approved the deployment of troops in the Katcha region on Saturday.
According to sources, the cabinet had given the green light for a circulation summary, allowing military troops to be stationed in the Katcha area near the Indus River.
By April 24, the Punjab government had requested federal assistance in the form of military support for the operation, sources noted.
If the operation isn’t completed by the specified date, the government has also requested a deployment extension until May 5, sources added. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) disclosed in a report that investigators had identified terrorist groups in the Katcha region.
These findings were presented during a meeting led by Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which discussed the extensive operation carried out by the police force in the Katcha areas.
The report indicated that terrorist groups were active in the Katcha areas and revealed their contact with foreign handlers and anti-state elements.
The meeting participants decided that over 11,000 Punjab police personnel would participate in the large-scale operation, aiming to dismantle terrorist hideouts and establish a permanent infrastructure in the area.
