Alphabet’s Google is conducting tests to display check marks next to certain companies for the search results.
According to a company spokesperson on Friday. This initiative is designed to help users distinguish verified sources and avoid fraudulent websites.
Fraudulent websites often mimic legitimate businesses, misleading users with false information that could damage the reputation of the actual brand. “We regularly experiment with features that enhance user trust in online businesses, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to specific businesses on Google,” the spokesperson stated.
Google’s systems already filter out “scammy” or fraudulent content, preventing such pages from appearing in search results.
The Verge reported this development earlier on Friday. In search results, it observed blue verified checkmarks next to the official site links for prominent companies such as Microsoft, Meta, and Apple.
This feature has been visible to only a select group of users, indicating that Google has not yet widely implemented this testing phase.
