American tech giant Google has enhanced its Password Manager by adding the ability to sync passkeys across multiple platforms.
Passkeys were previously confined to Android devices, requiring users to scan a QR code for access on non-Android devices.
The latest update enables passkeys to be saved and synchronized through Google Password Manager on various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Passkeys saved in Google Password Manager are automatically synchronized across all compatible devices, streamlining the user experience. To bolster security, Google has implemented end-to-end encryption for all passkey data, safeguarding against unauthorized access.
Unlike traditional passwords, passkeys are digital credentials that facilitate password-free account sign-ins. This update is part of Google’s ongoing effort to enhance security; it has supported passkeys since 2023.
Moreover, the update adds a new security layer by requiring users to establish a six-digit PIN when setting up passkeys on new devices, enhancing the authentication process.
