On May 29, 2025, Lionsgate released the first trailer for Good Fortune, marking Aziz Ansari’s highly anticipated directorial debut.
The comedy follows Gabriel, a clumsy angel played by Keanu Reeves, who meddles in the lives of a gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen). The star-studded cast includes Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer, as reported by Variety.
Ansari, known for creating and starring in Netflix’s Master of None, praised Palmer’s contribution: “Keke is a delight to work with.” The Good Fortune trailer showcases the film’s blend of humour and heart, positioning it as a must-watch Lionsgate comedy for 2025. Produced by Ansari, Anthony Katagas, and Alan Yang, the project is a collaboration between Garam Films, Oh Brudder, Keep Your Head, and Yang Pictures, presented by Lionsgate with Media Capital Technologies.
Originally titled Being Mortal and slated for 2022, the film faced delays due to allegations against former star Bill Murray. Now reimagined as Good Fortune, it’s set for a theatrical release on October 17, 2025, under the oversight of Lionsgate’s Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey.
